Songwriting Tip of the Week #3

Improv.

Improv, Improv, Improv.

If you want to improve, improv!

Get out your recorder, turn it on.

Take your instrument of choice.

Pick 3-4 chords.

And play them...over and over until you find a groove you like.

Then start to hum.

Don't worry about it being "right," or pretty, just hum.

This next part sounds a little crazy but trust me on this...

Take your humming, and turn it into mumbo jumbo; don't worry if they're words or not, and if some are words then thats great too, just don't stop!

Treat this like a free flowing experience, where you aren't stopping yourself, you aren't correcting yourself, you're just letting your creative mind run wild!

Do this for 5 minutes straight without stopping! Then when you go back and listen to your recording, I guarantee you'll have something to help you get started with your next song!

Until next week :)
