Don't feel like everything you intake has to be something that makes sense to you automatically, because your writing doesn't have to make sense to everyone else automatically either. Sometimes our songs may seem a little bit too meta, but that's okay. When we write seemingly nonsensical songs that are a reflection of the insanity of our minds, it allows other people to use our songs as a canvas where they can paint and project their own interpretations of our songs!
If you're a very literal person and don't know where to start...I recommend watching "Adventure Time!"
