Songwriting Tip of the Day #30

Tip #30: Use internal rhymes

Internal rhyming is when you use two or more rhyming words within the same sentence, when rhyming words are used in the middle of two separate sentences in the same place, or when a word in the middle of the sentence rhymes with the word at the end of the sentence.

Here are a few examples of internal rhyme used in lyrics!

“A Place In This World”
by Taylor Swift

[Chorus:]
I’m alone, on my own, and that’s all I know
I’ll be strong, I’ll be wrong, oh but life goes on
Oh, I’m just a girl, trying to find a place in this world

“Lose Yourself”
by Eminem

His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy.
There’s vomit on his sweater already, mom’s spaghetti.
He’s nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs,
but he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down.
The whole crowd goes so loud.
